A community service organization in Toronto is seeking a Community Correspondent to connect with and interview under-recognized essential workers. You'll gather their stories to share on social media and raise awareness about their contributions. This volunteer role offers flexibility and can contribute to volunteer hours certified by the organization.
Do you like connecting with and learning about people? Are you compassionate, curious, and community-driven? The Community Correspondent role is a wonderful opportunity to connect with under-recognized essential workers. This role involves reaching out to and interviewing everyday heroes in sectors such as community service, education, transportation, postal service and delivery, custodial and sanitation, food and agriculture, retail and manufacturing, and public health. You will gather testimonies from these individuals about their stories, insights, and experiences. Similar to “Humans of New York,” these stories will be shared on our website and social media to raise awareness and recognize these workers as extraordinary individuals. For students, this role can count towards volunteer hours at the discretion of your guidance counselor. We can also certify hours and provide references after a reasonable period of volunteering.

About our Initiative
Beyond The Wards Canada aims to highlight the contributions of under-recognized frontline workers often overlooked by mainstream media. While healthcare workers fighting COVID-19 are vital, we also want to recognize heroes in daily roles such as transportation, sanitation, and postal services. Our platform allows individuals to submit messages of gratitude via art, notes, letters, or performances, which are then sent to the workers and shared across our media platforms. We also run campaigns like Stories Unmasked to share essential workers' stories and plan to launch activism initiatives soon.
