Communications Team Volunteer

Restorations Second Stage Homes (“Restorations”) exists to support survivors of sexual exploitation and human trafficking by providing long-term residential housing (at "Nancy's House") and survivor-led peer programming. Nancy's House is the first of its kind second-stage, long-term transitional home for survivors of trafficking and exploitation in Burlington, Ontario. Providing a safe home for 3 survivors of human trafficking and through a trauma informed and strengths-based approach, Restorations builds and nurtures trusting, long-term relationships between survivors of sexual exploitation and staff, volunteers, and the wider community as a foundation to recovery, healing, empowerment, and success. Restorations also employs individuals with lived experience of trafficking and exploitation as Peer Advocates to deliver the Survivor-Led Peer Advocacy program. The program exists to promote collaborative relationships that empower survivors. The Communications Team assists the Executive Director with communications tasks to further the mission and work of Restorations.

Responsibilities
  • Working in collaboration with the Executive Director and staff to develop communications plan based on Restorations’ strategic priorities.
  • Identifying appropriate tools and media to communicate with stakeholders.
  • Researching trends, best practices, and communication strategies that help grow Restorations’ reach.
  • Monitoring and evaluating progress in meeting communications goals and targets.
  • Providing feedback on policies and procedures associated with communications.
  • Share RSSH’s mission, vision, values, goals, and work with stakeholders.
  • Assisting with key communications tasks including but not limited to:
    • Collecting images, creating graphics, and drafting captions for social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
    • Sharing stories of impact, updates, and news with stakeholders through digital platforms (including social media, e-newsletters, and our website), brochures, posters, annual reports, and other media.
  • Supporting the Fund Development Committee with communications relating to any fundraising events, activities, or campaigns.
  • Performing such additional tasks as may be delegated to the committee from time to time.

The Communications Team meets virtually once monthly to develop, review, and execute communications plan’s activities.

Applications will be received until January 2026 after which qualified applicants will be contacted regarding next steps (including an interview). Onboarding will be provided for successful applicants. Meetings are conducted monthly via Zoom with correspondence, consultation, and assigned tasks in between meetings as needed. Meeting times are TBD and can be arranged to suit the team's members.

Certification or Education Required

Preferred qualifications include experience in communications, marketing, storytelling, or social media. Education in communications, journalism, marketing, or nonprofit management is valued. Skills in writing, editing, design, and community engagement are assets. Knowledge of trauma-informed and ethical storytelling is a plus. Passion for supporting survivors and promoting the organization’s mission is essential.
