The Team

The Role

As a Legal Assistant, you will provide essential support to Crown Counsel in preparing prosecution case files for court proceedings. This role involves a wide range of legal services in a fast-paced and high-profile environment, where strong organization, communication, and teamwork are key to success. Qualifications: Education and Experience Requirements
  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Legal Assistant certificate OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Administrative experience, including:
  • Office experience working in a confidential capacity.
  • Experience typing, drafting, formatting, proofreading and editing a variety of documents.
  • Experience developing and maintaining administrative systems, procedures and standards.


Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Successful completion of a Legal Assistant or Paralegal certificate or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of administrative experience.
  • At least 1 year of recent experience (within the last 3 years) working as a Legal Assistant in a legal office.
  • Experience managing calendars, scheduling meetings and making travel arrangements.
  • Recent experience (within the last 3 years) working for the BC Prosecution Service.
  • Experience working in the criminal justice sector.

About this Position

1 Position available. An eligibility list may be established to fill both current and/or future permanent vacancies. Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement. Smithers, on Highway 16, is home to activities like fishing, boating, camping, hiking, skiing, and shopping. The traditional territory of the Wet’suwet’en people, whose relationship with the land and strong traditions continue to this day, Smithers is a small but welcoming community. A Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) and Enhanced Security Screening will be required. Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
