A Day In The Life Of a Courtesy Clerk

As a customer yourself, you know how important it is that checkout service is fast, accurate, and friendly. The impression shoppers get at the front end of the store is key to building customer loyalty. Courtesy Clerks bag groceries and may assist with bagging and taking groceries to customers’ cars. Experience is not necessary and training is provided.

• Upholds and complies with company procedures, standards and policies in all situations
• Greets customers in a polite and friendly manner
• Demonstrates superior customer service in accordance with Safeway’s programs
• Wrap and place merchandise in bags/carts
• Ensure cleanliness of the store’s front end
• Collect and return shopping carts
• Return store product
• Grocery carry outs for customers
• Sweep floors
• Price checks as required

Physical Requirements

• Frequent lifting of up to 10-30 pounds
• Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs including waist level and low level lifts
• Constant walking, reaching and balancing
• Frequent hand coordination, standing, bending, pushing or pulling
• Occasionally working outside in variable conditions
