About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Civil Engineer in the Site Engineering Department, the Project Engineer-Civil is responsible for the design, procurement, and construction of large engineering projects at Highland Valley Copper. The project portfolio typically includes brownfield projects ranging in capital from $250K up to $15M. Projects routinely involve water pumping, slurry pumping, pipelines, infrastructure relocations, concrete, and civil works.

To be successful, we are looking for someone with previous leadership experience, project engineering focused on water projects, strong verbal and written communication, as well as excellent interpersonal, organization and problem-solving abilities. A team-oriented individual with a strong focus on safety, personal responsibility, and who is highly self-motivated. The ability to maintain a positive and flexible attitude while working independently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment is vital in this role.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead and collaborate with key partners across multiple functions, departments, and management. You will play a key role in the creation and delivery of water management technical scopes to support the ongoing operation. These responsibilities support core Engineering and Projects functions for the site.

Responsibilities
  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures.
  • Identify, scope and deliver projects for site betterment, sustainment and risk mitigation.
  • Provide engineering and technical expertise to carry out a variety of civil engineering services and projects with a focus on dewatering and infrastructure.
  • Control project costs and schedule and provide accurate reporting throughout all project phases.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders within management and operational teams, and ensure that key information is communicated effectively.
  • Improve project delivery continually by applying relevant lessons learned and maintaining detailed records.
  • Look for and drive continuous improvement ideas including areas focused on technology and innovation.
  • Contribute to the overall efficiency of the Site Engineering department by performing other technical functions as assigned.
  • Facilitate management of change and risk assessments.
  • Collaborate on developing technical scopes and business justifications for sustaining and betterment projects.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to ensure that all structural, mechanical, and electrical elements meet industry standards, relevant codes, and best practices.
  • Oversee hourly workers and supervise on-site consultants and contractors during construction.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC).
  • 5+ years of Project Management experience; operational experience with mining/heavy industrial work would be considered an asset.
  • Previous experience designing and implementing large dewatering systems within a mining/industrial operation.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills with a continuous improvement demeanor.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D would be considered an asset.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
