New Beginnings Recovery Home is a BIPOC-owned residential addiction and mental health treatment centre in the GTA, providing 24/7 support to individuals on their recovery journey. Our space is more than just a facility—it’s a home. As part of our team, you’ll play a vital role in nourishing bodies, uplifting spirits, and helping clients rebuild their lives with dignity and care.

Position Summary

We are hiring both a Chef and a Prep Chef to help run our kitchen operations and provide healthy, home-style meals for up to 10–15 residents per day. You’ll work in a trauma-informed environment that values patience, consistency, and compassion.

Key Responsibilities

Meal Planning Expectations:

  • Create a 4-week meal plan that:
    • Includes a full ingredients list and cost breakdown for each meal
    • Rotates weekly to provide variety, nutritional balance, and cost-efficiency
    • Accommodates all common dietary restrictions, including:
  • Dietary restrictions (where possible):
    • Vegetarian / Vegan
    • Lactose-free / Dairy-free
    • Diabetic-friendly
    • Gluten-free / Celiac-friendly
    • Peanut & nut allergies
    • Halal and Kosher options

Meal plans should prioritize fresh, whole foods and align with Canada’s Food Guide and trauma-informed nutritional care practices.

Chef
  • Prepare and serve nutritious, well-balanced meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
  • Manage food inventory and kitchen cleanliness
  • Accommodate dietary restrictions (e.g., vegetarian, diabetic, Halal, gluten-free, etc.)
  • Coordinate with support staff to schedule meal prep and serving times
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen in line with Public Health standards
Prep Chef
  • Assist in food prep (chopping, portioning, storing)
  • Support the head chef with cooking tasks and plating
  • Clean kitchen tools and prep stations
  • Follow food safety guidelines and ensure consistent quality
Qualifications

Chef:

  • 2+ years of experience as a cook or chef (residential or institutional settings preferred)
  • Food Handler’s Certification (required)
  • Able to work independently and manage a kitchen solo if needed
  • Strong understanding of nutrition and meal planning

Prep Chef:

  • 1+ year experience in a kitchen setting
  • Food Handler’s Certification (preferred or willing to obtain)
  • Willingness to learn and follow directions
  • Team player with strong hygiene and organization

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00-$23.00 per hour
