SummaryThe Financial Close Controller team is seeking a highly accomplished and innovative Director to be a part of the Controller organization's transformation journey. The successful candidate will be a strong leader who challenges the status quo, driving continuous improvement and strategic financial decision-making within the organization. This role requires a deep understanding of technical accounting principles, financial reporting, governance, and internal controls as well as team management and optimization. The Director will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our financial operations
Key Responsibilities
- Accounting and Controllership: Oversee all aspects of divisional accounting operations by ensuring compliance with G.A.A.P. and IFRS standards and relevant regulations. This includes leading the financial results close process to ensure accurate, complete and timely results, providing optimal accounting guidance to support business decision making, financial statement preparation support, balance sheet oversight and internal controls.
- Technical Accounting Leadership: Advanced proficiency in analyzing highly complex transactions to assess appropriate accounting treatments and ensuring optimal operational implementation.
- Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and optimize financial processes and systems to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Identify and implement opportunities for automation and technological advancements, including AI-driven solutions.
- Governance and Internal Controls: Support, implement, and maintain robust internal control systems to safeguard company assets and ensure the accuracy and reliability of financial information.
- Financial Planning and Analysis: Provide informed recommendations to senior management to support decision-making that creates added value.
- Leadership and Management: Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of finance professionals by fostering a collaborative and positive work environment. Empower the team to effectively manage multiple projects and competing priorities, oversee performance management, conduct annual evaluations, and address employee concerns.
- Team Collaboration: Work effectively with all business partners to break down silos and deliver added value across the organization, including with financial operations, commercial operations, human resources, and more. Communicate complex issues and financial information clearly while providing analysis to senior management and stakeholders.
Critical Qualifications
- CPA certification and Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or commerce.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing a team.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision‑making skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Strong organizational skills with a keen ability to continuously prioritize and manage stress in a fast moving environment.
- Proven experience managing a large team of Finance professionals; including unionized employees, an asset.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams, SharePoint, etc.
- AI proficiency.
