Overview

POSITION TITLE: Certified Education Assistant

DEPARTMENT: Sk’elep School of Excellence

SUPERVISOR: School Principal

TERMS: Full-Time, Permanent

REFERENCE #: 2025-119

Purpose of Position

Education Assistants work as members of the student support team. They play a key role in the implementation of many educational programs for students, performing tasks that can range from helping with academic program activities to reinforcing social/behavioural plans, to providing personal care support.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Sk’elep and TteS policies, standards and procedures
  • Assist students with integration into the classroom and school setting
  • Assist students individually or in small groups with assignments and reinforce learning and retention concepts under the supervision of the classroom teacher
  • May assist students with special needs using techniques such as speech language and remedial programs
  • Monitor and report student progress to classroom teacher
  • Accompany and supervise students during activities in school gymnasiums, libraries, resource centres and on field trips
  • May assist in the school library, culture room or office and perform other duties as assigned by the school principal
  • May monitor or supervise students during recess, noon hour or during the day
Professional Certification, Education and Experience
  • Skills in facilitating learning in a classroom environment
  • Experience working with children with trauma
  • One-year classroom related experience assisting childhood learners
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Willingness to work collaboratively in a team setting
  • Professional, friendly and supportive to school students, staff and guests
  • Working 1:1 with students with exceptionalities would be an asset
Required Licence, Certification, etc.
  • Grade 12 with a minimum of one (1) year of post-secondary in a related field
  • Educational Assistant Certificate
  • Criminal Record Check

Hours of Work

Normal Day shifts - 7 hours. Non-normal shifts may be required.

Pay Grade

Starting at $25.98-$28.70/hour depending on education and experience
