A regional district in British Columbia is seeking a Camp Leader for the summer of 2026 in Lake Cowichan. The role involves leading and instructing day camps for children aged 6-12, with a focus on fostering physical activity and inclusivity. The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications from prospective candidates to work as a Camp Leader at Cowichan Lake Recreation for summer 2026. This is a great opportunity for those seeking to gain experience in the recreation and childcare field. Our summer positions provide the opportunity for you to learn and be mentored by experienced staff, gain valuable coaching feedback/support throughout your employment and gain valuable training courses that can be utilized in future careers.
Under the supervision of the Recreation Programmer II, the Camp Leader plans weekly day camps at the recreation centre. The Camp Leader provides direct leadership, instruction and supervision in a varied, comprehensive and inclusive program for children ages6–12. There is an educational component to daily activities plus encouragement to become more active and promote physical literacy and healthier lifestyles.
This position is available for a period of 11 weeks commencing June 22, 2026, and continues until September 4, 2026, subject to enrolment and funding. Hours of work may be scheduled based on enrolment and may vary up to 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
There may be opportunities to retain casual employment throughout the year if you have a desire to further your work experience in the recreation field.
This temporary position is non-union, and is compensated at $26.07perhour, which is $22.24 per hour plus 6% pay in lieu of benefits, 6% pay in lieu of vacation and 5.2% pay in lieu of statutory holidays (2025 rates).
