The Local is committed to developing and supporting a highly skilled workforce while promoting Manitoba-based talent on a national and international stage. Our client seeks a strategic leader with extensive experience managing the full spectrum of organizational operations, including financial oversight, human resources, labor relations, and stakeholder engagement within the film and television industry. Responsibilities include daily management of all core functions?overseeing budget development and financial controls, supervising staff and contract personnel, coordinating professional training initiatives, and ensuring compliance with provincial and federal labor legislation. Plays a key role in aligning operational activities with the Local?s mission to support and represent its members, while maintaining strong relationships with industry partners, government bodies, and union leadership at local, national, and international levels.

Responsibilities:

Collective Agreements & Industry Relations

  • Oversee, negotiate, and enforce Collective Agreements with employers and industry partners.
  • Manage all workplace situations involving the interpretation or application of the Collective Agreement.
  • Lead external communications including social media, newsletters, and member updates.
  • Represent the Local at national and international industry markets, festivals, and conferences.
  • Assisting in the design and implementation of improvement to accounting workflows
  • Supports ad hoc projects that add value to the organization

Human Resources & Staff Development

  • Hire, train, manage, and evaluate staff in accordance with HR policies.
  • Provide regular feedback, recognition, and professional development opportunities to staff.
  • Develop and annually review internal HR policies and procedures including staff training programs and performance improvement strategies.

Financial Oversight & Budgeting

  • Collaborate with accounting to prepare and manage the annual budget.
  • Oversee financial planning, contract payments, salaries, and training costs within approved budget limits.
  • Provide financial updates and recommendations to the Board of Directors.

Governance & Board Relations

  • Serve as primary liaison between executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
  • Report on key operational, financial, and industry developments at board meetings.
  • Consult with the board on staffing, compensation, risk management, and strategic decisions.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive leadership experience, preferably within a union or non-profit organization.
  • Proven experience in labor relations, including negotiation, interpretation, and enforcement of collective agreements.
  • Demonstrated ability in human resources leadership
  • Experience working with or reporting to a Board of Directors or Executive Committee.
  • Deep understanding of labour laws, employment standards, and collective bargaining
  • Excellent organizational leadership and strategic planning capabilities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication, including public speaking and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to build relationships with industry partners, members, and allied organizations locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • Skilled in management and making sound decisions under pressure.
