Overview

Position

Bus Driver - Route 289

Reports to: Coordinator of Transportation

Employee Group: CUPE

Schedule: 5 hours per day

Status & Wage: Indefinite Term position, effective immediately

Route: Route #289, 5 hrs/day, New Germany Sub-system

Responsibilities
  • First AM Run: Transporting students to New Germany Elementary & High Schools; serving areas include Lower Branch Rd, Glendale Ave, John Arnold Ave, Gail Ave, Sarty Rd, Veinot Rd, Seamone Rd & Mader Rd.
  • First PM Run: Transporting students from New Germany Elementary & High Schools; serving areas include Lower Branch Rd, Glendale Ave, John Arnold Ave, Gail Ave, Sarty Rd, Veinot Rd, Seamone Rd & Mader Rd.
  • Operate assigned vehicle safely and in compliance with relevant regulations and policies, including the National Safety Code, the Motor Carrier Act, the Registry of Motor Vehicle Regulations, Board Policy and internal procedures established by the Transportation Manager.
  • Enforce safety rules and discipline on the school bus according to Board policy and regulations.
  • Use good judgment in determining road conditions during inclement weather and advise the Transportation Manager if conditions pose a hazard to transporting students safely.
  • Keep the bus well maintained: clean inside and outside daily; report mechanical or body repair problems to the Lead Head Mechanic.
  • Submit driver records and reports in a timely fashion (Time and Mileage reports, Extra Curricular Trip forms, Fuel Consumption, School Bus Discipline Reports, Vehicle Accident Reports, Student Information Sheets, National Safety Code Daily Log).
  • Hours may change due to overnight resting spot. For permanent positions, a new time and meterage must be completed within one week of starting the route.

Background/Security Checks

The South Shore Regional Centre for Education requires all newly hired employees to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record / Vulnerable Sector Check and a Nova Scotia Child Abuse Register Check. Checks completed within the last 3 months will be accepted.

Regional office-based positions require travel and candidates may be required to provide a valid driver’s license. Some school-based positions also require travel and candidates may be required to provide a valid driver’s license.
