Overview

Position title: Board Member - Audit Committee. Type: Unpaid volunteering position. Availability: ~2-5 hours monthly. Location: Montreal preferred (Quebec or Ontario regions accepted).

Digital Moment (formerly Kids Code Jeunesse) is a Montreal-based charity founded in 2013. It is part of a global network of organizations working to mobilize communities to build a better future through digital literacy education. The organization focuses on digital literacy programs and experiences for youth and their communities, covering coding, algorithm and data literacy, and artificial intelligence. To date, Digital Moment has reached over a million youth and 30,000 educators, and aims to increase impact in the coming years.

We are seeking a Board Member to support the leadership team in executing the current strategy, developing innovative strategies, and delivering on impact goals and the theory of change. The role includes governance and financial oversight, with a specific focus on financials as part of the Audit Committee.

With growing interest in artificial intelligence, cybersafety, and ethical use of technology, Digital Moment is at a pivotal stage of growth. The role offers a tangible opportunity to contribute to the future of Canadian youth and to promote access and equity to the tools needed for a bright future.

Responsibilities and requirements below reflect the expectations of the Board and the Audit Committee.

Responsibilities
  • Commitment of time: presence at meetings and action to support Digital Moment (~2-5 hours monthly).
  • Review and monitor the integrity of financial statements, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and oversee financial reporting processes and disclosures.
  • Appoint, meet with, and oversee external auditors, including review and approval of audited financial statements and audit findings.
  • Assess the organization’s risk profile and mitigation strategies.
  • Represent Digital Moment at board meetings and at special events and in the community (primarily in Montreal).
  • Support fundraising activity and fundraising event promotion; make introductions to the CEO to facilitate partnerships or funding opportunities.
  • Adhere to and uphold the organization’s commitments to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Utilize governance experience to contribute to board governance processes.
Qualifications
  • Ideal candidate has prior board experience and familiarity with board governance processes.
  • Experience and a broad network in the technology and education sectors.
  • Strong understanding of government relations and the ability to connect with potential opportunities.
  • Strong financial literacy and understanding of financial statements.
  • Experience in auditing, accounting, or financial management; familiarity with internal controls, risk assessment, and compliance.
  • Ideally, holds an accounting designation.
