About the role
Join the insurance and securitization team in the Specialist, Multi-Unit Underwriting position. As a member of the Multi-Unit Underwriting team you will, identify, analyze, and assess the risks associated with each multi-unit, mortgage loan insurance application and provide a recommendation for decision.

This is a temporary position with a duration of 13 months.

What you’ll do:

  • Conduct detailed risk analysis involving program/product requirements, including but not limited to an assessment of the property, market, borrower and loan, which may involve financial, legal and professional reviews.
  • Apply sound judgment and decision-making practises that are factual and based on well-reasoned analysis to derive insurance risk recommendations and mitigation options in line with CMHC's risk appetite.
  • Exercise prudence and diligence to ensure compliance with all relevant internal policies and procedures applicable to the function.
  • Maintain quality relationships with clients to understand their needs and objectives and explore opportunities.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team to enhance service standards and improve turnaround times.
  • Engage internal support functions such as legal services, policy and operations, and borrower analysis to seek clarification and concurrence in support of recommendations.


What you should have:

  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as business, accounting, finance or commerce, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • A minimum of five (5) years' experience in credit risk and/or financial analysis.
  • Knowledge of financial analysis and statements, borrower legal structures and real estate financing.
  • Knowledge of construction financing, multi-unit underwriting, and credit risk analysis.
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • The ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with various stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of serviced client groups in Canada, including related legal documentation.
  • A proficiency to communicate in both official languages(French and English).


It would be great if you also had:

  • Successful completion of a professional association designation such as Certified in Real Estate Finance (CRF), Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute (AACI), Chartered Accountant (CA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or Certified Property Manager (CPM).
  • Experience in building reports and/or in using statistical analysis software such as MS Excel.
