What’s the job?

Based in a world-class Horizon North camp facility, the regular shift for this position is 20 days on and 10 days off, with 10-hour workdays. Transportation is provided to site from a designated pick up point.

As a Baker, you will delight our clients by preparing and baking goods to the highest standards of Horizon North. This position is safety sensitive and requires drug, alcohol and fit-to-work testing as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities
  • Identify areas of improvement on the overall operation as necessary
  • Prepare and bake goods from scratch in large quantities
  • Restock pastry shelves and maintain a sufficient and fresh supply of baked goods
  • Create and follow menus to ensure quality of baked goods, squares, pies, cakes and hot desserts
  • Ensure consistent quality standard in overall food preparation as per clients’ requirements including consideration of special dietary constraints
  • Comply with food hygiene regulations in accordance with Food Safety Act & HACCP
  • Follow all safety regulated policies set out by the organization
  • Clean, wash, and sanitize equipment and overall work areas
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisors and Management

Qualifications
  • FoodSafe Level I is required. SafeCheck advanced food safety certification or HACCP certification is an asset
  • Education: Culinary Program Graduate or Red Seal certified Pastry Chef
  • Minimum 5 years baking experience in a similar or hotel/institutional environment
  • Proven experience preparing baked goods for large numbers of guests
  • Prior supervisory experience
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 45 pounds
  • Must obtain a mark of 80% or higher on the mandatory WHMIS test (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System)
