ANNAPOLIS VALLEY REGIONAL CENTRE FOR EDUCATION SPARE BUS DRIVERS

PART TIME FLEXIBLE WORK SCHEDULE

Wage: $26.26/hr

Individuals who enjoy driving and working with children may be interested in working as a Spare Bus Driver!

Spare School Bus Drivers are required on an “as needed” basis to support operations in the Annapolis Valley Centre for Education, throughout West Hants, Kings and Annapolis Counties. School buses travel on paved and unpaved roads in a variety of weather. Spare Bus Drivers are on call for a part-year (during September - June) and part-time (5 hours per day) and typically drive a morning and/or afternoon run for instructional days. Spare Bus Drivers may also opt to drive hours for extra- or co-curricular events.

Responsibilities
  • Spare Bus Drivers safely drive school buses with air brakes on assigned routes and extra-curricular trips.
  • They are responsible for the safety and discipline of passengers.
  • Perform daily routine maintenance including cleaning and washing the bus.
  • Conduct pre-trip inspection of the vehicle.
  • Comply with all AVRCE policies, regulations, and government policies, regulations, and legislation.

  • Nova Scotia Operator’s License Class 2B with air brake endorsement.
  • Clean driving record; up-to-date medical and vision tests.
  • Good communication skills; reliable; able to interact courteously and professionally with students, parents/guardians, and staff.

Training

Successful applicants are required to successfully complete an in-house training program in the safe operations of a school bus and First Aid/CPR.
