We are seeking a passionate Auxiliary Game Design with Unreal Engine Bootcamp Instructor to join our team as a substitute instructor. The role is a casual / part-time contractor opportunity to sub classes when requested. Auxiliary Instructors get first access to Instructor roles as opportunities become available. This position is open to candidates based in Eastern Canada and is 100% remote. Availability is required from 6:30-9:00 pm Eastern Time on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Preference will be given to candidates in Ontario and Quebec.

Responsibilities

  • When subbing, prepare and lead engaging and comprehensive classroom sessions, labs, and hands-on projects related to game design, utilizing a learner-centered approach.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Unreal Engine for game prototyping, offering demonstrations and tutorials to students, or actively learn and apply Unreal Engine prototyping skills.
  • Share real-world experiences, case studies, and insights from the game development industry to provide students with a holistic understanding of the field.
  • Stay updated with industry advancements, emerging technologies, and best practices in game design to continually enhance instructional techniques.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in the game development industry, with a proven track record of successful game design projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Game Design, Game Development, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in game design principles, mechanics, and narrative. Demonstrable experience with Unreal Engine for game prototyping or a strong commitment to rapidly acquire this skill.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to convey complex concepts in an accessible and engaging manner. Previous instructor or teaching assistant experience is an asset.
  • Creative thinking and the ability to inspire and nurture creativity in students.
  • Strong understanding of playtesting methodologies and iterative, player-centric design processes, with the ability to guide students in applying these principles.
  • A passion for guiding and mentoring students, providing meaningful feedback, and supporting their growth.
  • Willingness to adapt to evolving curriculum needs, industry trends, and emerging technologies.
  • Collaborative attitude and a proactive approach to professional development and staying up-to-date with industry advancements.
  • A strong portfolio of game design projects or relevant work to showcase skills and experience.
