Overview

Our client, a growing engineering consulting firm with offices in Vancouver, BC, and Toronto, ON, is seeking an Associate Project Manager to play a key strategic role in supporting the Design Director in growing the mechanical systems team and business.

This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious, client-facing engineer who is passionate about sustainable building systems, business development, and project delivery. The successful candidate will be directly involved in design oversight, project management, client engagement, and proposal development, while helping the firm expand its market presence in mechanical engineering services.

Further Responsibilities Include the Following

  • Work closely with the Design Director to grow the mechanical systems business and support long-term strategic initiatives.
  • Contribute to business development efforts, including identifying opportunities, building client relationships, and attending industry events.
  • Prepare and support proposals, fee estimates, and RFP responses to secure new project work.
  • Lead or assist with mechanical system design for new builds, retrofits, and tenant improvements.
  • Manage projects from concept through completion, including budgets, schedules, and quality control.
  • Collaborate with clients, architects, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
  • Provide technical guidance on HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
  • Support sustainability goals and compliance with LEED, WELL, and Zero Carbon standards.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to internal process improvements to strengthen the team.

Ideal Candidate Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 9+ years’ experience in mechanical building system design.
  • P.Eng designation or eligibility for registration with EGBC (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated business development or proposal-writing experience within consulting engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and building performance optimization.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain client relationships.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and energy modeling tools (e.g., IES Virtual Environment).
  • Solid understanding of building codes and sustainability frameworks.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and client engagement skills.
