Job summary

An automotive company in Windsor seeks an Engineering Supervisor for the Brake Development Lab. The role involves supervising unionized personnel, directing engineering work, and managing testing operations. Qualifications

  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada and capable of traveling to the USA.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise unionized personnel, ensuring safety and conflict resolution.
  • Direct work between engineers and lead daily customer interface meetings.
  • Analyze data using testing equipment like Laser Vibrometer.
  • Coordinate shipping of specimens to engineers and suppliers.
  • Collaborate with external suppliers for component dissections.

Job description
Overview

The Brake Development Lab (BDL) is part of the Engineering Systems Development – Chassis / Body-in-White (ESD – CBIW) department.

Responsibilities include the operation of two brake-end dynos and one full size chassis dyno including associated test setup and reporting. The primary responsibility will be the supervision of unionized personnel and duties associated with such supervision (safety, environmental, conflict resolution, etc.)

Other activities will also include directing work between engineers and leading the daily customer interface meeting. Taking and analyzing data using the Laser Vibrometer and Caliper Test Stand. Departmental activities may also be required depending on scheduling, for example vacation coverage in the Electromechanical Systems Test Lab.

The coordination and shipping of specimens and samples to various product engineers and suppliers will also be required.

Other work duties include working with external suppliers to lead the dissections of various components, track budgets and help generate purchase orders. Work with ARDC management and University of Windsor in interviewing, hiring and training co-op students.

Excellent communication and leadership skills are required to coordinate and instruct bargaining unit mechanics. The successful applicant must have cross functional experience in working collaboratively with the mechanic supervisor, union, management, maintenance and facilities teams.

The BDL is a 24/7 operation where occasionally coverage on the afternoon, midnight, weekends/OT may be required.

Skill Requirements
  • Knowledge of vehicle suspension and braking systems

  • Previous experience using a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) an asset
  • Competent with the Microsoft Office Suite of products including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, VBA
  • Strong time management, leadership, planning and follow up skills
  • Excellent written and oral skills
Work Experience Requirements
  • 3 years of engineering experience within the automotive/testing industry, testing experience preferred
  • Experience working in a unionized environment
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada with ability to travel to USA
  • Must have a valid driver's license
Educational Requirements
  • Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Electrical/Automotive/Material Engineering is required from an accredited university
