Our innovations in artificial intelligence (AI) are central to our strategy, with a focus on enhancing and evolving our products for the future. Our initiatives aim to incorporate cutting-edge AI technology to strengthen our offerings and anticipate our clients’ future needs. By joining our team, you will be part of this innovation cell and play a vital role in designing and developing innovative solutions that will transform our products and services. Your expertise and creativity will be key to keeping us at the forefront of technological innovation. We are adopting a responsible approach to AI that puts our users’ interests first and that values the talent and creativity of the people who showcase our culture.

This is a hybrid position with a mix of in-office and remote work. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines.

Why is this role important?

We are looking for a visionary software architect to lead the design and evolution of our next-generation platform, which will be powered by generative AI and large language models (LLMs).

This is a key role that goes beyond typical responsibilities. You will establish the technical foundation for our AI-powered products, ensuring their scalability, performance and editorial integrity across our search, chatbot, recommendation and editorial management tools.

You will work closely with our product, editorial and technical teams to transform how our users interact with news and information.

Role responsibilities

How you will make an impact :

  • Architecture and Design
    • Define the technical architecture for AI-powered services, including a search engine with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), chatbots, recommendation engines and editorial support tools.
    • Design APIs and data pipelines that integrate our content library with LLMs, focusing on performance and scalability.
    • Establish hybrid architectural standards combining traditional services with generative AI (caching, vector databases, fine-tuning pipelines).
  • AI and Data Integration
    • Design and oversee RAG frameworks for contextual and reliable responses.
    • Lead integration of vector databases, embedding systems and knowledge graph technologies.
    • Define strategies for model selection, fine-tuning and orchestration while ensuring editorial and ethical guidelines.
  • Governance, Reliability and Security
    • Develop control frameworks to ensure generated results are safe, relevant, unbiased and compliant with editorial standards.
    • Implement mechanisms for detecting hallucinations, reducing bias and validating factual accuracy.
    • Collaborate with editorial teams to incorporate human-in-the-loop processes when necessary.
  • Collaboration and Leadership
    • Partner with product managers to align architecture with strategic priorities and user needs.
    • Guide and support development teams in adopting best practices for generative AI and LLMs.
    • Act as a liaison between engineering and data science teams and editorial stakeholders.
  • Scalability and Performance
    • Ensure the design of efficient, cost-effective and robust solutions for the massive, real-time traffic typical of news and media environments.
    • Design architectures that can dynamically adapt to user behaviour and current events.

Qualifications

  • Technical Expertise
    • Proven experience as a software architect, principal engineer or equivalent on large-scale platforms.
    • Strong command of LLMs, RAG architectures, vector search, embeddings and recommendation systems.
    • Solid knowledge of modern AI and data stacks, including vector databases (e.g., Milvus, Pinecone, Weaviate, FAISS), orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex) and ML platforms.
    • Familiarity with cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP) and MLOps practices.
    • Expertise in back-end / web architectures (APIs, microservices and distributed systems).
  • AI-Specific Skills
    • Understanding of language model fine-tuning, evaluation and alignment mechanisms.
    • Knowledge of AI evaluation metrics (relevance, coherence, diversity, factual accuracy).
    • Experience with recommendation algorithms, personalization and A/B testing.
  • Cross-Functional Skills
    • A strategic vision that balances editorial integrity with technological innovation.
    • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex AI concepts for various audiences.
    • Leadership and mentorship abilities that foster a collaborative culture.
  • Assets
    • Experience in the media, publishing or news sector.
    • Participation in open-source AI / ML projects.
    • An understanding of the ethical issues of AI, including bias detection and regulatory frameworks.
    • Proficiency in English.

In your first 12 to 18 months, you will have :

  • Defined and deployed the AI architecture that powers our new search, chatbot and recommendation engines.
  • Established governance frameworks to ensure reliable and editorially aligned results.
  • Empowered teams to quickly prototype, test and deploy user experiences enriched by generative AI.
