Job summary

A major insurance company in Canada is seeking an Application Developer to be part of their Life Core Application Delivery team. The candidate will design, develop, and test software solutions aimed at meeting business stakeholder requirements. Job Overview

The Application Developer will be part of our Life Core Application Delivery team and contributes to Wawanesa’s success by designing, developing and testing software solutions to meet our business stakeholder requirements.

The ideal candidate thrives in an agile environment, embraces continuous improvement, and applies test‑driven development practices. You should have experience building modern software solutions with a strong focus on quality and proficiency in Windows desktop, web, and API applications.

Job Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with solution analysts and developers to design, develop, and test applications.
  • Translate requirements into technical specifications and solution documents.
  • Estimate, track, and ensure timely completion of development tasks.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies: backlog grooming, sizing, daily stand‑ups, demos, retrospectives, and releases.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation.
  • Maintain and support business systems and applications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve application incidents.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices.
Qualifications
  • Completion of post‑secondary degree or diploma in software development or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in application development using C# .NET and SQL Server.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with style fitting for the audience and message.
  • Strong planning and organizing skills, with the ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Effective decision‑making skills, with the ability to direct team members to achieve goals through clear instruction.
  • Experience using software development tools such as JIRA, Confluence, and Source Code Management (Git).
  • Experience with WinForms, WPF, REST API, and automated testing is considered an asset.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools such as GitHub Copilot is considered an asset.
  • Certifications in relevant technology or processes is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in Life Insurance industry is considered an asset.
