Job description

WHO WE ARE

When it comes to health, we’re always looking for ways to push for better. GreenShield was founded in 1957 as a not-for-profit with a mission to support better health for all Canadians. We’re the only not-for-profit social enterprise that brings worlds of coverage and care together, all in one place. We’re challengers building a better way, and we’re looking for the best people to help us create a more holistic approach that takes care of mind and body. Our mission is to create better health for all Canadians, and we know that starts with our employees.

THE ROLE IN A NUTSHELL

ABOUT GREENSHIELD VENTURES

GreenShield Ventures is the venture studio and innovation hub of GreenShield. It places Canadians at the heart of our innovation process in pursuit of Better Health for All Canadians. Ventures incubates and builds digital solutions in insurance, benefits administration, and healthcare delivery. The team operates with a small internal core and augments capacity through product-specific teams, consultants and contractors. Luke Vigeant leads GreenShield Ventures as co-founder and former President of Inkblot Technologies, overseeing the development of GreenShield’s integrated health and benefits ecosystem, GreenShield+. This is a full-time Analyst role reporting to the Business Development Manager and working closely with the Product Manager. It offers a ground-floor opportunity to learn venture-building within Canada’s not-for-profit payer-provider landscape.

As an Analyst, you’ll wear many hats—supporting market research, product strategy, and venture development—and contribute to healthtech and insuretech products that impact Canadians’ lives. You’ll thrive if you’re curious, detail-oriented, and motivated by turning complex problems into actionable insights. This is a hands-on, high-growth role covering the full lifecycle of new product and venture creation—from idea backlog management and hypothesis development to user discovery and external ecosystem building. You’ll be challenged daily, with opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute to our mission.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Backlog & Idea Management
    • Own and run the end-to-end process for managing the Ventures idea backlog alongside the Business Development and Product leads.
    • Coordinate brainstorming sessions (internal and external) to generate, prioritize, and refine new venture opportunities.
  • Research & Insight Generation
    • Conduct in-depth market research, including market sizing, competitive benchmarking, comparables analysis, and business model exploration.
    • Develop clear product and go-to-market hypotheses that can be tested and validated quickly.
    • Prepare discovery interviews with users, partners, and stakeholders to uncover unmet needs and refine problem statements.
  • Venture Development & Product Support
    • Support evaluation of the effort, risk, and resources required to bring new products and ventures to life.
    • Work closely with design and product owners to help inform Product Requirements Documentation and rapid prototyping efforts.
    • Translate findings into actionable insights to guide product, design, and commercial decision-making.
  • Cross-Functional & Ecosystem Engagement
    • Build collaborative relationships across departments to support idea generation and problem discovery.
    • Represent GreenShield Ventures externally by contributing to thought leadership, supporting ecosystem events, and building our presence in the Canadian healthtech and innovation community.
    • Help prepare reports, presentations, and dashboards that distill complex analysis into compelling narratives for executives and stakeholders.
  • Market Analysis & Ecosystem Tracking
    • Identify and track market innovations and startups relevant to the Ventures’ theses and distill learnings back to the Ventures team.
    • Network with investors and thought leaders to inform innovation priorities.
    • Advance innovations by building relationships and creating strategic partnerships with key players—charities, nonprofits, government departments, larger industry players, and health systems in Canada.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Qualities & Mindset

  • Mission-driven and energized by shaping the future of health and coverage in Canada.
  • Eager to learn, adaptable, and motivated by fast-paced, early-stage environments.
  • Collaborative, comfortable in a small team, and able to work independently with strong accountability.
  • Embraces experimentation and views failure as an opportunity to learn and iterate.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Entrepreneurship, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in market analysis, venture development, innovation, consulting, or technology roles—ideally with exposure to startups or early-stage product development.
  • Experience in healthtech, venture capital, investment banking, or insurance is an asset but not required.

Technical & Analytical Skills

  • Familiarity with backlog planning processes, iterative product development, and startup methodologies.
  • Comfort collaborating with product and technical teams, with working knowledge of modern tools (APIs, analytics platforms, AI, workflow automation).
  • Strong analytical and research abilities with the knack for turning data into insight and action.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communicator who translates complex findings into simple, compelling stories.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple workstreams.
  • Strong relationship-builder across teams and stakeholders, internal and external.

Nice to Haves

  • MBA or Master’s in Technology Innovation.
  • Ancillary skills in engineering, design, or product management.
  • Experience in health insurance or the non-profit sector.
