Job Description

The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for a tenure‑track appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level for a clinician‑scientist.

Established in 1997 as an academic research organization within the University of Alberta, the Canadian VIGOUR Centre (CVC) is devoted to the enhancement of cardiovascular health. The CVC is internationally recognized for pioneering research in cardiovascular medicine that fosters the translation of research through thought leadership, the management of innovative clinical trials, and the development of patient registries and population outcome studies.

The position is linked to the CVC Chair in Cardiovascular Science which will provide operational funding for a translational research program hosted by the Canadian VIGOUR Centre to advance knowledge in the diagnosis, treatment, and enhancement of cardiovascular health. The chairholder will report on performance as outlined in the terms of reference of the endowed chair.

Candidates are expected to participate in an appropriate share of Department of Medicine clinical service and teaching responsibilities. The primary academic Division within the Department of Medicine will be determined based on the chosen candidate.

The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenured appointment in the Department of Medicine, with the rank of Associate or Full Professor, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement, and offers a comprehensive benefits package.

Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Medicine & Health Services Program (AMHSP). Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience.

University of Alberta is seeking a clinician and leading researcher in cardiovascular health sciences with expertise in translational sciences, clinical trials, epidemiology, or other relevant disciplines. The selected candidate will hold the Canadian VIGOUR Centre (CVC) Chair in Cardiovascular Science and receive significant research and infrastructure support through the endowed chair to develop and lead a world‑leading and independent research program in the candidate's field of expertise.

Qualifications
  • An MD (or equivalent) with certification in a sub‑specialty of Internal Medicine with a focus in Cardiovascular Health
  • Be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA)
  • A strong scientific track record as an independent investigator, a research background in cardiovascular health and proven experience in translational sciences
  • Expertise and accomplishments in education and mentorship
  • Success in applying for independent peer‑reviewed research funding
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships that bring a variety of stakeholders and multi‑disciplinary researchers together
