What does an Airport Security Manager do?

Lead and oversee airport security operations while ensuring 100% compliance with Transport Canada regulations

Supervise, coach, and mentor a large team of security staff, ensuring strong morale and professional performance

Maintain operational KPIs, including staff retention, incident response times, and compliance audit scores

Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and implement corrective actions

Oversee scheduling, staffing levels, and deployment to ensure operational coverage during all hours of operation

Liaise with airport authorities, airlines, and law enforcement partners to maintain strong working relationships

Respond to and investigate incidents in a timely and professional manner, preparing accurate reports for senior management

Manage uniform and equipment inventory, ensuring staff are properly outfitted and operationally ready

Support recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training to build a strong, reliable workforce

Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and professionalism across all security operations

Qualifications to become an Airport Security Manager

Previous experience in a supervisory or managerial role in aviation/airport security is required

Strong knowledge of Transport Canada regulations, airport operations, and aviation security standards

Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage, coach, and develop a large team

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build strong stakeholder relationships

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and operational reporting tools

Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays

Professional deportment and the ability to remain calm and authoritative in high-pressure situations

Physical ability to conduct patrols, respond to incidents, and support frontline staff when required
