A community organization in Saskatoon is seeking an Adult Literacy Coach to work one-on-one with adult learners. The role involves assessing current skills, providing support, and creating tailored Learning Plans. Volunteers will receive comprehensive training and ongoing support. Candidates must be over 18, attend orientation, and have CLB 8. Sessions may be in-person at libraries or via Zoom. This is an excellent opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the community.
Organization: Foundations Learning and Skills, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
Volunteers work with adult learners one‑on‑one and in small groups to enhance literacy skills. All training is provided to volunteers, as well as ongoing support from our Adult Literacy Coordinator throughout the program.
Work with adult participants to identify current skills, and support them with tools, resources, and encouragement. Coaches meet one‑on‑one either in‑person at a public library or over Zoom at a time convenient for the learner and coach.
Coaches receive comprehensive literacy training, templates, and materials. After training, you will be matched with a learner, begin with a detailed Learning Plan, and plan weekly sessions based on that plan, training strategies, and materials relevant to the learners’ interests and skill levels.
Our adult learners are diverse and have individual goals: improving literacy for reading & writing, passing the written portion of a driver’s exam, earning a GED, etc. We welcome feedback and maintain regular contact to offer support and gather feedback.
On‑site address: 2‑706 Duchess Street, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, S7K 0R3. (Sessions can also be conducted over Zoom.)
