About the Opportunity
  • Utilize existing financial and management systems to gather and consolidate information to produce a variety of business information, including internal management reports identifying significant variances to budget and changes to forecast, and consolidated corporate finance reports. Coordinate, assemble and prepare data to support reporting to the executive team and regulatory reporting. Analyze data to ensure consistency with other internal reporting and alignment with corporate assumptions and strategies.
  • Analyze impact of corporate reorganizations and ensure reporting reflects current structure and appropriate variances to prior period results.
  • Support business units in their analysis and explanation of significant variations between budgeted/forecasted and actual expenditure.
  • Review existing financial control procedures to ascertain their effectiveness and recommend improvements as required. Prepare new or revised procedures and assist in their implementation. Review cost control and financial reporting procedures, assess their effectiveness and recommend changes or improvements as necessary.
  • Review, revise and coordinate reporting systems with a view to assessing their impact to ensure these systems reflect corporate needs. Assess problem areas, discuss with supervisor and assist in the development and implementation of revised systems. Drive automation to increase productivity and reduce risk of misstatements in reporting.
  • Assist in defining requirements and evaluate outputs produced with the objective of providing a clearer picture of ongoing work.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in projects, as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as required.
About You
  • A four-year university education in business administration or commerce with an accounting or finance major, working towards or with successful completion of a recognized accounting designation (CPA).
  • Familiarity with the regulated utility business.
  • Required experience in financial reporting, management reporting, cost accounting, corporate accounting with knowledge of full cycle accounting.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications; advanced Excel skills and familiarity with SAP and Microsoft Power BI is considered an asset.
  • High initiative and independence in exploring system information/data and inter-business unit integration processes.
  • Requires a knowledge of business/financial planning and cost accounting principles, financial analytical techniques and computer applications to develop, implement and maintain financial control systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to function in an environment where continuous improvement is needed.
  • Demonstrated effective listening, verbal and written communications skills.
  • Excellent quantitative analysis skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and develop trust and mutual respect for effective integration across multiple internal stakeholders and at multiple organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated high level of initiative and organizational skills.
  • High degree of personal commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.

Salary Range

$95,000 - $105,000 / year
