Job summary

A local school district is seeking a District K-5 Music Teacher for a temporary position at Bastion Elementary School from September 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Music degree, a valid teaching certificate, and experience in elementary music instruction. Responsibilities include teaching classes, preparing for concerts, and supporting music programs for students. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

Qualifications

Overview

School District No. 83 is currently seeking : Position Title

1.0 FTE District K-5 Music Teacher

Bastion Elementary School

This is a temporary assignment effective September 1 2025 to June 30 2026 or to return of teacher to full contractual FTE whichever comes first.

Music teachers in School District No. 83 are employees of the District Music Department and are assigned as needed within the district. Elementary Music teachers provide preparation time for their colleagues so the exact size of assignments to schools may fluctuate in September depending upon enrolment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Music degree or equivalent;
• Valid BC teaching certificate and current membership in the Teacher Regulation Branch;
• Orff levels Kodaly levels or equivalent coursework.

Teachers applying for this position should possess the following attributes :

• French speaking would be an asset;
• successful experience in Elementary Music instruction;
• excellent classroom management skills;
• evidence of excellent interpersonal conflict resolution and communication skills in working with staff students and parents;
• demonstrated ability to use a variety of current instructional strategies and assessment methods;
• working knowledge of the renewed curriculum for the Fine Arts;
• commitment to stimulating student interest and confidence in learning;
• ability to teach ukulele recorder guitar orff dance and choir;
• demonstrated ability to work collegially as part of a school staff;
• comfortable planning and executing school-wide concerts and events;
• ability to relate effectively to all elementary school students;
• ability to promote support for a schools Music program;
• successful recent experience working with students with special needs;
• current knowledge of and interest in applications of computer technology in the Music classroom.
