A regional educational institution located in Ontario is seeking a Dedicated Occasional Teacher (DOT) to support teaching staff at Margaret Twomey Public School. Job description
Overview

Dedicated Occasional Teacher (DOT) – edit sites. The Dedicated Occasional Teacher is a new role within SGDSB that will support Margaret Twomey Public School. This position will be used to support teaching staff who are absent at Margaret Twomey Public School. This role will follow the guidance below as a trial position for the 2025-2026 school year.

Responsibilities
  • Report to designated work site each workday and for each professional development day to receive and execute assigned duties. Attendance at staff meetings will be part of professional obligations.
  • Provide duties appropriate to an occasional teacher; support the development and instruction of lessons as required by the Principal.
  • Travel between assigned school locations as needed, with mileage paid per Board policy, time to commute safely between sites, and a 40-minute uninterrupted lunch break.
  • Be available to work for a teacher when posted to the OT List for at least 4 days in advance or when the assignment is within 3 days of the date. A DOT may be scheduled to work up to a maximum of 5 days in advance.
  • If an assignment requires lesson plan design, be paid at the appropriate grid rate as per the Superior-Greenstone Teachers Local Agreement Article 8.0.
Qualifications

Qualifications: Valid Ontario College of Teachers Certificate of Qualification in good standing and qualifications for the position as warranted. Valid Drivers License and access to a reliable vehicle. Demonstrated regular attendance at work.

Other Details
  • DOTs shall be entitled to all LTO Leave Benefits as per Article 11.
  • DOTs working conditions shall be the same as regular Occasional Teachers per Article 10.0.
  • DOTs shall accrue experience for each day worked as per Article 8.02; such experience shall not impact the salary of a DOT until they accept an assignment as a Permanent Teacher or an LTO Teacher, or an assignment where the Principal requires development and instruction of a lesson.
  • A DOT shall report to their designated work site each workday and for each PD day to receive and execute their assigned duties.

A written authorization from the applicant permitting the Board to contact these references is required. Information from such persons will be gathered in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
