With an ever evolving and growing pipeline within Self-Care, there is a need for R&D leaders who can work closely with commercial functions (Consumer Insights & Marketing) to better understand our consumers / HCPs and their unmet needs, help shape our future innovation, and keep pace with a rapidly changing Self-Care landscape.

Simultaneously, the need of leading collaborations among technical partners (Med Affairs, Clin, Reg Affairs, etc.) will be a critical growing skill to ensure that these visions come to life.

The Principal Scientist in R&D Self Care will lead and execute the continued development of the regional pipeline including R&D leadership for multiple and complex technical programs ensuring the business need, consumer / HCP needs and contributing to the growth of this Franchise regionally.

It is important to present both technical skills in the pharma industry and also leadership skills in the planning and execution of the projects.

Good communication skills, intellectual curiosity and ability to make difficult decisions in a complex environment is a must.

Responsibilities

• Technical management and execution for OTC New Product Implementation pro-actively contributing to critical analysis and technical recommendations during the developments.
• Represent R&D into cross functional teams as a Product Development bringing critical technical discussions, manage complexity, risk taking and decision making supported on data analysis.
• Ensure compliance with internal JnJ Guidelines and external Legal Authorities regulations.
• Due diligence reviews with deep technical analysis to evaluate external opportunities aligned with the need state business strategy.
• Lead the E2E process for a new OTC development starting with product development, process strategy and validation.
• Close collaboration with key stakeholders (Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, Marketing, Supply Chain) to act as a team player.
• Understand consumer & HCP unmet needs and future portfolio white spaces for continued pipeline development.
• Management of direct and indirect young scientists including "hands-on" leadership involving formulation techniques as applicable and career growth development for direct reports.

Qualifications

• Bachelor 's degree in Pharmacy, Chemistry or scientific related areas.
• Advanced English is required
• 7+ years' experience in OTC (i.e. Solids and Liquids) with Formulation and Process Development is required.
• Broad (global and regional) knowledge of the Self Care (OTC medicines) business is required o Knowledge and experience with regulatory requirements including ICH, FDA, compendia (e.g. USP, JP, EP, etc.) is preferred.
• Technical knowledge on key clinical and regulatory strategies to lead and support claim substantiation approval in partnership with Regulatory and Medical affairs teams.
• Experience in developing E2E new OTC product development being the main technical leader.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, collaborate and connect with other departments and divisions within and outside J&J to achieve desired outcomes.
• Ability to make critical decisions in a complex environment leading and shaping main challenges supported on robust data analysis.
• Previous experience with people management is a differential (2+ years).
