Job Title: Chinese Cook

We are seeking an experienced Chinese Cook to join our team at Beach Road Chinese takeaway in Ashburton. The successful applicant will be responsible for preparing, seasoning, and cooking a wide variety of authentic Chinese dishes in a fast-paced takeaway environment, ensuring consistency, quality, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare, season, and cook authentic Chinese cuisine, including stir-fries, noodle dishes, fried rice, soups, and other takeaway meals.

• Operate kitchen equipment such as woks, deep fryers, steamers, and grills safely and efficiently.

• Ensure all meals are prepared to a high standard of quality, taste, and presentation.

• Monitor stock levels, assist with ordering ingredients, and ensure proper storage of food supplies.

• Maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen environment in accordance with New Zealand food safety regulations.

• Follow established recipes and portion controls, while also contributing new ideas for menu development.

• Work collaboratively with other kitchen and service staff to ensure smooth daily operations.

• Assist with training junior staff or kitchen helpers as required.

Requirements:

• Knowledge of traditional Chinese cooking techniques and use of authentic ingredients.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple orders simultaneously.

• Strong understanding of food hygiene, health, and safety practices.

• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays as required.

Experience & Qualification:

• 2 years or more of relevant job experience
  or
• a qualification at level 4 or higher on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF).
