SPECIALIST GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER
Job Title: Specialist Geotechnical Engineer (Part-Time / Full-Time Hybrid)
Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE (Hybrid: Office + Remote)
Department: Geotechnical / Civil Engineering
Reports to: Project Manager / Technical Director
Job Summary:
KN International is seeking a Specialist Geotechnical Engineer (Part-Time or Full-Time Hybrid) with strong expertise in soil mechanics, foundation engineering, and ground improvement techniques. The candidate will provide technical leadership in geotechnical investigations, analysis, design recommendations, and construction support across infrastructure, building, and landscape projects.

The role offers a hybrid working model allowing a combination of office presence in Abu Dhabi and remote working to support flexibility and project needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Geotechnical Investigation and Analysis
  • Plan, supervise, and interpret site investigations, including boreholes, trial pits, and laboratory testing.
  • Perform geotechnical analysis for foundations, retaining structures, slopes, and embankments.
  • Prepare geotechnical interpretative reports (GIR) and design basis reports.
  • Design and Technical Advisory
    • Provide foundation design recommendations for shallow and deep foundations (piles, rafts, footings).
    • Advise on ground improvement methods, soil stabilization, dewatering, and excavation support.
    • Conduct settlement analysis, bearing capacity evaluations, and slope stability assessments.
    • Support design teams by integrating geotechnical inputs into overall project designs.
  • Project Coordination and Site Support
    • Liaise with project managers, clients, contractors, and authorities on geotechnical aspects.
    • Provide technical advice during construction, reviewing site conditions and contractor methods.
    • Monitor foundation works and ground improvement activities to ensure design compliance.
  • Reporting and Documentation
    • Prepare detailed technical reports, specifications, and site supervision documentation.
    • Review and approve contractor submissions, including geotechnical method statements and material proposals.
  • Compliance and Standards
    • Ensure all geotechnical designs comply with UAE regulations and international standards (BS, ASTM, Eurocode).
    • Promote best practices in geotechnical risk management, safety, and environmental responsibility.

    Required Qualifications & Skills:

    • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field (Master's degree preferred).
    • 10-15 years of experience in geotechnical engineering, with strong exposure to UAE or GCC region projects.
    • Proficient with geotechnical software (e.g., Plaxis, GeoStudio, Settle3D, Slope/W).
    • In-depth understanding of UAE soil conditions, groundwater behavior, and construction methodologies.
    • Strong skills in technical reporting, client communication, and project coordination.
    • Membership in professional organizations like ICE, ASCE, or similar is an advantage.

    Preferred Attributes:

    • Experience in infrastructure, high-rise developments, marine works, or landscape projects.
    • Knowledge of advanced numerical modeling techniques for complex geotechnical problems.
    • A proactive, flexible, and solutions-oriented approach to problem-solving.

    Note: This role offers a hybrid work arrangement (office + remote) and can be structured as part-time or full-time depending on the candidate's availability and project requirements.
