Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Accountant to manage the financial operations of our retail business. The role involves handling high-volume transactions, maintaining accurate books of accounts, reconciling sales and inventory, ensuring compliance, and providing management with timely financial insights. The ideal candidate should have prior experience in retail or FMCG accounting, strong analytical skills, and proficiency in accounting systems and POS/ERP tools.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate books of accounts in line with company policies and accounting standards.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Support consolidation and reporting of multiple retail outlets.
  • Reconcile daily sales from POS systems with bank deposits and cash collections.
  • Ensure accurate recording of discounts, returns, credit notes, and promotions.
  • Monitor and track various payment modes (cash, card, digital wallets).
  • Inventory & Cost Control
    • Record inventory transactions and support periodic stock reconciliations.
    • Track cost of goods sold (COGS) and ensure correct valuation of closing stock.
    • Investigate discrepancies between system records and physical stock.
  • Accounts Payable & Receivable
    • Process vendor invoices and reconcile supplier statements.
    • Ensure timely vendor payments and proper accounting of discounts/rebates.
    • Monitor customer receivables (if applicable) and follow up on outstanding dues.
  • Taxation & Compliance
    • File GST/VAT, TDS, and other statutory returns on time.
    • Maintain documentation for statutory audits and compliance checks.
    • Support internal and external auditors with required reconciliations.
  • Cash Flow & Banking
    • Reconcile daily store-level cash deposits with bank statements.
    • Monitor petty cash transactions and reimbursements.
    • Assist in preparing cash flow forecasts for retail operations.
  • Systems & Process Improvements
    • Work with POS/ERP systems to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
    • Recommend process improvements to strengthen financial controls.
    • Support automation initiatives in accounting and reporting.
  • Management Support
    • Prepare MIS reports on sales, margins, and operating costs.
    • Assist in budgeting and forecasting for retail operations.
    • Provide financial insights to management for decision-making.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CA/CPA/CMA preferred but not mandatory).
  • 2–5 years of experience in accounting, preferably in retail/FMCG.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, GST/VAT, and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and accounting software (ERP/POS experience is an advantage).
  • Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage high transaction volumes.
