Job description
Overview

The Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at College of Engineering, United Arab Emirates University calls for applications for a Research Associate to work in the field of bio-based materials. The candidate will be supported by a research grant for four months and will work under the supervision of Professor Mohammad Jawaid.

Responsibilities
  • Extraction of lignin using natural deep eutectic solvents from biomass
  • Characterisation of extracted lignin from biomass
  • Modification of lignin to biobased resin
  • Testing extracted and modified lignin using advanced characterization techniques (thermal, structural, morphological, NMR, UV spectroscopy, particle size analysis, BET)
  • Present and report research results at national and international conferences and publish scientific results in peer‑reviewed Q1 journals
Minimum Qualifications

An appropriate educational degree supplemented with documented evidence to support the following:

  • Skilled in materials science
  • Research experience in extraction and synthesis of lignin and bioresin
  • Ability to fabricate and characterize composites and nanocomposites
  • Good technical writing skills and a strong publication record
  • Flexible approach and initiative in executing the role
Preferred Qualifications
  • Materials science / polymer composites background or related areas
  • Demonstrable willingness to support work in the lab
  • Be adaptable and flexible to the continuous changes associated with research demands
  • Commitment to providing a safe and healthy workplace
