The Khalifa Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Assistant Research Professor in Bioinformatics and Population Genetics. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research in genetic engineering, focusing on population genetics, evolutionary biology, and bioinformatics methodologies.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Population Genetics, Genomics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in bioinformatics analysis, particularly in population genetics or evolutionary studies.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as R, Python, or Perl, and familiarity with bioinformatics tools and databases.
  • Strong understanding of statistical genetics, evolutionary theory, and relevant methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a track record of publishing research and presenting findings.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
  • Experience in mentoring students or junior researchers is preferred.
Experience/Skills
  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct independent and collaborative research in bioinformatics and population genetics, contributing to the center's strategic research goals.
  • Develop and implement bioinformatic tools and pipelines for analyzing genomic data, including next-generation sequencing (NGS) data.
  • Analyze genetic variation within and between populations, applying statistical methods to interpret population structure, gene flow, and evolutionary dynamics.
  • The candidate must very well verse on genome structure including transposons.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate bioinformatics with experimental research in genetics and biotechnology.
  • Mentor graduate students and junior researchers, providing guidance in research methodologies, data analysis, and scientific writing.
  • Publish research findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
  • Seek external funding through grant proposals to support research initiatives and laboratory projects.
  • Participate in the development of educational materials and teaching opportunities related to bioinformatics and population genetics.
