JOB DESCRIPTION: HEAD OF Department- Design and Technology
Job Title: Head of Department - DT
Department: Secondary
Reports to: Deputy/ Assistant Head of Secondary
Direct Reports: Teacher and Technician within the Department
Job Scope: Responsibility for the quality of teaching, learning, curriculum, and assessment outcomes across the department. Ensure outstanding attainment and progress across all subjects within the department. Track and monitor attainment data and triangulate this with other data to identify and remove barriers to learning. Lead and manage the DT team, including DT Teacher and Technician, to ensure high-quality provision for students. Ensure high standards of teaching and learning, use varied assessment strategies, and develop students' love for learning within the DT subjects.

Main Duties & Responsibilities: Develop outstanding teaching and learning through research, leadership, and robust monitoring. Lead curriculum development, ensure effective intervention strategies, and maintain high standards of teaching. Manage and develop departmental staff, undertake quality assurance, and foster a strong team environment. Play a key role in student behaviour management and promote safeguarding.
Person Specification: A good honours degree, QTS or PGCE, minimum 3 years of secondary teaching, leadership experience preferred. Must demonstrate integrity, professionalism, resilience, strategic thinking, and commitment to continuous improvement. Strong knowledge of attainment data, effective pedagogy, and legislation relevant to Dubai and the UK.
