Overview
An Industrial Machine Installer is a skilled tradesperson responsible for setting up, assembling, aligning, and testing machinery used in factories, plants, and other industrial settings. Their role is essential in ensuring machines are installed correctly, safely, and according to technical specifications so production can run smoothly.
Responsibilities
- Machine Installation: Assemble and install heavy industrial machines (CNC machines, conveyors, packaging machines, pumps, compressors, etc.).
- Alignment & Calibration: Ensure machines are leveled, aligned, and calibrated for precise operation.
- Electrical & Mechanical Connections: Connect power supply, wiring, sensors, pneumatic / hydraulic lines, and safety systems.
- Blueprint Reading: Interpret technical drawings, installation manuals, and layouts.
- Testing & Commissioning: Run trial operations to verify correct installation and performance.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and fix installation issues (misalignment, vibration, electrical faults).
- Safety Compliance: Follow occupational safety standards and ensure machines are installed securely.
Skills
- Mechanical and electrical knowledge.
- Ability to read blueprints and wiring diagrams.
- Precision alignment (using tools like dial indicators, laser alignment systems).
- Welding, drilling, and fabrication (sometimes required).
- Knowledge of PLCs and automation systems (advantageous).
- Physical strength and ability to handle heavy equipment.
- Safety awareness (lockout / tagout, PPE usage, etc.)
