Job Description
Overview

The HSE Manager leads health, safety, security, and environment programs for a major construction/mining project. They develop site‑specific safety manuals, oversee training, incident investigations, and compliance with PPE and safety laws. The role includes supervising HSE staff, coordinating with contractors and client representatives, and managing third‑party security services.

Your Role
  • Responsible for managing and supervising the health and safety program for the construction management team as well as the Trade Contractors’ health and safety officers.
  • With the support of the SLI Corporate HSSE Manager, develop and implement a site‑specific health and safety manual, which will contain policies and work procedures for the project.
  • Maintain safety records and statistics and analyze the results to continuously improve the safety program.
  • Provide safety training and orientation, investigate all incidents, ensure Trade Contractors adhere to the site‑specific safety procedures, including the wearing of proper personal protective equipment (PPE), monitor and participate in joint safety meetings and coordination activities with Coeur Rochester’s safety representative.
  • The HSSE manager will be mobilized during detailed engineering to develop the project HSSE manual and procedures and assist in development of the Project Execution Plan.
  • Oversee and direct the work of the HSSE Coordinators and HSSE Administrator.
  • Responsible for security and oversight of 3rd party security service provider in charge of gate security and overall project security services.
About You
  • Minimum 10+ years Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) experience, Marine industry.
  • Strong leadership experience in the development and implementation of Corporate OH&S policies and initiatives.
  • Be aware of state safety laws, codes of practice, guidance notes and safe working practices relevant to the work activities.
  • Ability to write, develop, and present safety programs and reporting to high level stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work with and coordinate the OH&S activities of sub‑contractors.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to prepare and communicate OH&S reports both internally and to the client.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Windows applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point and Publisher as well as Safety Management Systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OHSAS 18001 standard and requirements of COR.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training material – Computer based training experience an asset.
  • Degree or Diploma in Health and Safety, Master of Science and/or Safety Designation preferred.
  • Ability to work well within a team environment.
