Job Description:

The primary objective of the position is to ensure the health, safety, well-being, and protection of students, faculty, staff, campus property and the environment. This is achieved through the implementation of effective health and safety measures, including the preparation and implementation of health and safety procedures, the conduct of risk assessments, ensuring proper control measures are implemented by the concerned parties, developing emergency preparedness plans, and establishing security protocols.

  • Management of Occupational Health & Safety @CMHS: act as representative for the ISO45001:2008 Health & Safety Management System.
  • Maintain all necessary documentation such as risk assessments, Lab audit reports, training records, monthly HSE reports, accident/incident investigation reports, minutes of the Safety Committee meetings, etc. for the ISO45001:2008 External Audit purpose.
  • Evaluate and prepare Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment reports as deemed necessary.
  • Monitor and implement control measures to minimize hazards and risks associated with the facility.
  • Supervise Safe Chemical Management by coordinating with the Laboratories.
  • Ensure that Material Safety Data Sheets/Information of all chemicals on site are maintained by the Laboratories as per Civil Defense requirements.
  • Supervise all hazardous waste management and disposal (chemical and biological materials).
  • Organise and supervise Fire & Emergency Plans and Preparedness, including drills and exercises.
  • Organise and provide safety inductions (for staff, students, contractors etc.), and safety training and instruction as required.
  • Prepare and deliver Laboratory Safety training to all Laboratory staff, including research assistants, PhD students, Post-Docs and Research Volunteers.
  • Assist Departmental Chairs with the investigation and management of incidents.
  • Manage the incident reporting process and carry out investigations on incidents reported to avoid recurrence and to create a safe working atmosphere.
  • Carry out laboratory Health & Safety audits and follow up action wherever deemed necessary.
  • Report unresolved and significant incidents to the S&S Committee.
  • Supervise the Safety Committee meetings, including preparation of the meeting agenda, minutes of the meeting and follow-up on action items.
  • Undertake OH&S audits as required.
  • Investigate and examine reported unsafe equipment and working environments.
  • Develop and review CMHS safety and security policies & procedures and modify as appropriate.
  • Monitor compliance with CMHS Policy and Procedures by employees, contractors, students and visitors.
  • Maintain and manage the CMHS Safety and Security policies, procedures and documentation.
  • Maintain and manage the CMHS Safety and Security website.
  • Maintain First Aid capability (equipment and training).
  • Prepare Safety Reports as required and conduct walk-through inspections daily.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of national and local Occupational Health and Safety legislation and regulations.
  • Assist in the management of absenteeism associated with work-related health and safety issues.
  • Perform additional duties related to Health, Safety, and Security issues as directed by the Dean’s Office, and/or the Chair of the Safety and Security Committee.
  • Supervise Security activities and ensure prompt delivery of security services for all events and day-to-day security tasks.
  • Manage access card issuance, distribution, renewal and collection at CMHS.
  • Responsible for key management.
  • CMHS Faculty & Staff UAEU Central department such as Procurement, FMD Khadamat, Government agencies, vendors, suppliers, external auditors.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree

Experience/Skills

1-2 years of experience in occupational health, safety and security, preferably in academia, medical institutions, or hospitals. NEBOSH IGC (National Education Board of Safety & Health, International General Certificate UK), ISO 45001:2008 Management System Lead Auditor, Risk Assessment, Accident Investigation and reporting, Emergency Response & First Training. Driver's License. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work under pressure and handle crisis situations with composure. Organized to meet deadlines.
