Overview
The Electrical Engineer will assist the Project Manager and the Resident Engineer in administering the operational functions of day-to-day activities on the project. The Electrical Engineer will participate in and manage review and approval of all submittals by the contractor with a focus on quality assurance during the engineering phase of construction. Under the supervision of the project resident engineer or MEP lead, performs routine inspection monitoring tasks to confirm if proper construction supervision is being performed by others. Inspects various facets of work on the construction site and performs continuous surveillance of assigned construction activities to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and specifications. Documents non-conformance and may participate in determining an appropriate resolution.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Resident Engineer or MEP Lead in performing the contractual duties on site.
- Provide resolution for technical engineering problems within the assigned discipline(s); coordinate application of solutions to ensure progress on site.
- Advise the project manager of any technical aspects of the electrical services that may affect construction progress, quality, and the like.
- Continually review the contractor's construction schedule during the progress of site works.
- Review construction submittals from project inception to close-out.
- Review Contractor's installation method statements.
- Review Contractor's shop drawings against the design drawings for compliance with the design intent and return to the project manager with comments/approval.
- Review contractor's electrical shop drawings in conjunction with structural and mechanical engineers to ensure engineering coordination and advise the project manager accordingly.
- Review Contractor's electrical services material proposals against specified technical performance requirements and advise the Project Manager on appropriateness.
- Review Contractor's proposed subcontractors associated with the electrical engineering works from a technical standpoint.
- Monitor material procurement and deliveries to ensure timeliness in support of construction activities and schedule within the assigned discipline.
- Undertake general project site observation/inspection of the electrical services works for Contractor's adherence to approved shop drawings and Consultant's specifications, good working practices, the construction schedule and health & safety.
- Be available to undertake off-site inspections of proposed equipment and materials as deemed necessary by the Project Manager.
- Undertake prior review of Contractor's proposed electrical system testing & commissioning methods and schedule.
- Witness on-site piped system pressure tests, air conditioning duct leakage testing and other testing required during the first fix works and advise the Project Manager accordingly.
- On a spot basis witness electrical system final testing and commissioning.
- Review and comment on Contractor's testing and commissioning results and advise Project Manager accordingly.
- Prepare an ongoing list of electrical services defects for contractor's remedial action.
- Undertake final project snagging and prepare list of defects for Contractor's action.
- Attend project, site progress and any electrical services related technical meetings as directed by the project manager.
- Prepare draft site/engineer's instructions relating to the building electrical services and issue to the Project Manager.
- Provide advice to the Project Manager regarding any electrical services related variation costs that may be claimed by the Contractor during the course of the works.
- Review and comment upon Contractors Operation and Maintenance manuals.
- Oversee junior engineers and inspectors for all electrical work and ensure that installation activities comply with contractual obligations and quality control standards.
- Follow up with the contractor and support in coordinating with the utility authority regarding connections whenever required.
- Ensure that the project quality control procedures are used for the construction supervision works and monitor it for improvement.
- Collaborate with construction management to eliminate hazards associated with the work that may adversely affect the environment or the safety or health of employees.
- Reviews and interprets discipline design drawings and specifications to ensure current revision level and correct technical execution of the work.
- Performs works inspection requests and material inspection requests as required to support juniors.
- Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Min of 10 years postgraduate experience and a min. of 7 years of similar work experience on large projects.
- Regional experience is preferred.
- Authority registration is preferred.
- A professional who can manage and coordinate specialized activity, discipline or team of moderate size and complexity.
