A leading engineering firm in Dubai seeks a Design Engineer specialized in lifting and materials-handling equipment. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, 3–6 years of related experience, and proficiency in CAD software. Responsibilities include designing custom equipment, producing detailed drawings, and collaborating with project teams to ensure quality and compliance with UAE standards.
About the Role
We are seeking a technically adept and innovative Design Engineer for the industrial lifting and materials-handling equipment sector. The successful candidate will design, develop and refine engineering solutions for lifting systems, slings, wires, hoists and related equipment ensuring adherence to required specifications, standards and safety regulations.
Conceptualise, engineer and detail lifting and materials-handling equipment (e.g., spreader beams, slings, wire ropes, hoists) according to client requirements and applicable load/usage conditions.
Review technical specifications, client drawings, engineering calculations and design requirements; input into design justification, material selection and safety compliance.
Produce detailed 2D/3D CAD drawings, fabrication drawings, BOMs (Bill of Materials), assembly instructions and documentation suitable for manufacturing or assembly.
Collaborate with structural/MEP engineers, fabrication teams and manufacturing to validate design feasibility, manufacturability and cost-efficiency.
Perform engineering calculations such as stress, load-capacity, factor of safety, fatigue, crane hook capacities or applicable standards (e.g., LEEA, BS/EN) to verify safe operation.
Ensure compliance with relevant international and UAE standards for lifting equipment, such as ISO 9001, ISO 45001, and industry-certified systems.
Liaise with clients and project teams to clarify design queries, revise drawings as needed, and manage revision control.
Support product testing, quality assurance, load-testing setup and commissioning: review test plans, analyse results and make design refinements.
Assist in value-engineering and optimisation initiatives: propose design modifications to improve performance, reduce cost, simplify fabrication or enhance safety/maintenance.
Maintain and update design records, drawing archives, technical libraries and ensure version control of design documentation.
Stay up-to-date with industry trends, new materials, fabrication methods, lifting-technology standards, and contribute design improvements accordingly.
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field.
Minimum 36 years experience in equipment design, ideally within lifting, rigging, cranes or heavy-fabrication segments in the UAE or GCC.
Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor or equivalent 2D/3D CAD tools; capability to produce fabrication-ready drawings.
Strong engineering fundamentals: mechanics, materials science, load calculations, fatigue, tolerance, welding/fabrication principles.
Familiarity with manufacturing/assembly processes, fabrication workflows, inspection/test regimes and industrial equipment supply-chain dynamics.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills: able to work with clients, internal teams, suppliers and manufacturing units.
Detail-oriented, organised and able to work under tight timelines and changing requirements.
Fluent in English; Arabic proficiency is advantageous.
Valid UAE driving licence is an added advantage if site/warehouse visits are required.
Innovative and engineering-minded: able to translate client requirements into practical, safe and efficient engineering designs.
Problem-solving and analytical: identifies challenges, proposes solutions and iterates designs accordingly.
Collaborative and communicative: works effectively across design, manufacturing, project and client teams.
Quality-driven: ensures accuracy, integrity of design data and adheres to high safety and manufacturing standards.
Adaptable and resilient: comfortable working in a dynamic industrial environment with evolving project conditions.
Professional integrity: upholds ethical manufacturing/design practices, safety culture and regulatory compliance.
Competitive salary and benefits aligned with UAE market for engineering roles in industrial equipment.
Opportunity to work on heavy-lift, bespoke materials-handling and industrial equipment design projects with impact.
Exposure to end-to-end engineering from concept through to manufacturing and commissioning and professional development opportunities in design engineering.
