Job Overview
The Civil Engineer – Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for managing all aspects related to cost estimation, quantity take-offs, contract administration, and project budgeting throughout the project lifecycle. The role demands strong analytical skills, in-depth knowledge of construction methodologies, and the ability to prepare accurate cost reports in compliance with project requirements and UAE market standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates, BOQs, and material take-offs based on engineering drawings and project specifications.
- Conduct site measurements, verify quantities, and maintain updated quantity records for ongoing projects.
- Analyze project budgets, maintain cost control systems, and track variations against approved expenditure.
- Evaluate subcontractor quotations, prepare comparative statements, and assist in awarding contracts.
- Monitor project costs, forecast financial projections, and provide periodic cost reports to management.
- Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and site teams to ensure cost-effective project delivery.
- Review contract terms, identify potential risks, suggest cost-saving measures, and manage change orders.
- Prepare interim and final payment certificates for subcontractors and suppliers.
- Assist in claims preparation and support negotiations related to variations, extensions, and disputes.
- Ensure all QS activities comply with project specifications, contractual obligations, and industry standards in the UAE.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of hands‑on experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the construction or contracting industry.
- Proven experience in BOQ preparation, estimation, cost control, and contract administration.
- Familiarity with UAE construction standards, regulations, and estimation practices.
Skills Required
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Excel, and estimation software (e.g., CostX, Candy, Planswift preferred).
- Excellent understanding of construction materials, drawings, and technical specifications.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret project data and prepare accurate cost forecasts.
- Strong communication and coordination skills with cross-functional teams.
- Negotiation and vendor management abilities.
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality and accuracy under tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of FIDIC contracts is an added advantage.
