We make health happen
At Bupa, our purpose is simple: we help people live longer, healthier, happier lives – and make a better world. With no shareholders, we reinvest our profits to improve care and experience for our customers.
As our Business Development Manager, you'll play a key role in making health happen for employer groups across Africa. You'll grow our presence by building trusted relationships with brokers and businesses, and by tailoring solutions that give more people access to quality international health cover.
What makes this role stand out? You'll own the sales plan for your segment, shape go‑to‑market initiatives, and partner with pricing, proposition and marketing colleagues to bring customer‑ready offers to life. You'll be measured on clear, practical outcomes – building a healthy pipeline, improving conversion, and growing average deal size – all in service of our mission.
Own and deliver the segment sales strategy and plan, working closely with segment managers and the wider commercial team, with clear timelines and measures.
Build and manage high quality prospect pipeline across key markets and channels, with a focused broker engagement approach.
Develop compelling proposals and presentations that clearly explain the Bupa proposition; negotiate fair, sustainable terms.
Strengthen broker and client relationships, including onboarding priority brokers and supporting training to enable growth.
Track performance and market insight, providing regular forecasts and feedback; keep sales activity records accurate and up to date.
Champion compliant selling and risk awareness, escalating potential issues and meeting regulatory and governance requirements.
Collaborate with pricing, proposition and marketing to inform campaign activity and optimise distribution; complete CRM and reporting to agreed standards.
Model Bupa's culture and values, acting with integrity and putting customers at the heart of decisions.
We're looking for someone who's confident, curious and commercially minded – and who cares about doing the right thing for customers.
A sales background in global health insurance or relevant financial services (e.g., life insurance, banking or wealth), with success managing large corporate accounts.
First‑hand experience working with Africa markets and broker‑led distribution.
A track record of winning new business and meeting targets through practical, consultative selling.
Strong commercial judgement, including pricing and contract know‑how, and the ability to read financials and act on them.
Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build partnerships and negotiate fair outcomes.
Comfortable in a regulated environment, with a commitment to treating customers fairly and following governance requirements.
Leadership experience: you've supported teams through change and growth.
We're a health insurer and provider. With no shareholders, our customers are our focus. Our people are all driven by the same purpose – helping people live longer, healthier, happier lives and making a better world. We make health happen by being brave, caring and responsible in everything we do.
We encourage all of our people to "Be you at Bupa", we champion diversity, and we understand the importance of our people representing the communities and customers we serve. That's why we especially encourage applications from people with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
