Overview

Automation Manager (Digital Engineering, BIM, and GIS) – Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Lead digital engineering initiatives focusing on Building Information Modeling (BIM), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and automation processes to drive efficiency and innovation in projects at AECOM.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team of automation specialists across multiple engineering centers.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members.
  • Serve as the primary interface with the engineering teams on all technical matters.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to identify automation opportunities and requirements.
  • Draft and review software requirements specification documentation.
  • Budgeting and cost forecasting within the automation discipline.
  • Prioritize, deliver, and manage automation requirements.
  • Review risks and propose mitigation solutions for automation projects (risk-aware approach).
  • Manage development and implementation of custom tools using Autodesk Platform Services (APS), Autodesk Construction Cloud, and Bentley ProjectWise.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain custom add-ons for Autodesk Revit, Civil 3D, and ESRI ArcGIS Pro.
  • Analyze code quality, readability, and adherence to coding standards; ensure UI / UX design quality.
  • Regularly review and update existing automation tools to enhance functionality and efficiency.
  • Lead complex automation tool development, testing, deployment, and maintenance across BIM software.
  • Generate detailed reports (including KPI reporting).
  • Prepare and present technical documentation and reports to senior management.
  • Stay updated with latest ESRI, Autodesk, Bentley software and automation technologies.
  • Utilize version control systems (Git, Bitbucket) for codebase management and team collaboration.
  • Implement Agile / Scrum methodologies to drive timelines and deliverables.
  • Use project management tools (e.g., Jira) to track progress, manage sprints, and ensure team alignment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in digital engineering with a focus on BIM and GIS.
  • 3+ years of experience in automation and process improvement within construction or infrastructure.
  • Experience in managing and leading technical teams.
  • Proficiency in BIM software (e.g., Autodesk Revit, Navisworks) and GIS platforms (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS).
  • Strong understanding of automation technologies and relevant programming languages.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-department collaboration.
  • Professional certifications in BIM, GIS, or automation technologies are preferred (e.g., Autodesk, ESRI).
  • Experience with large-scale construction or infrastructure projects in the Middle East is a plus.
