Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks a Senior System Protection Engineer to join the Grid Services team in the United States. You will lead protection philosophies, settings, and studies for transmission lines, transformers, buses, and capacitor banks, and review C&C design for high‑voltage projects in coordination with substation teams.

The role requires 7+ years in system protection, a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, and hands‑on experience with CAPE/ASPEN and related relay software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
• 7+ years in system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
• Hands‑on responsibility for relay settings and protection studies.
• Experience with CAPE/ASPEN (or equivalent protection analysis tools).
• Proficiency with protection configuration tools such as SEL AcSELerator and EnerVista.
• Ability to check and interpret P&C drawings (one‑lines, three‑lines, schematics).
• Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, and NERC/PRC standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead development of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, breakers, and capacitor/reactor banks.
• Perform protection studies including short‑circuit analysis and relay coordination.
• Configure, set, and troubleshoot microprocessor‑based protective relays using vendor software.
• Use Powerbase or similar databases to manage relay records and documentation.
• Support event analysis, misoperation investigations, and field questions related to protection and control.
• Develop and review P&C design documents (one‑lines, three‑lines, schematics, wiring/logic diagrams).
• Provide system protection requirements and markups to guide P&C design.
