Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Senior System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team. You will lead protection philosophy development, settings, and studies for transmission lines, transformers, buses, and reactive banks, while supporting P&C design reviews for high‑voltage projects.

You will coordinate with substation design teams, perform protection analysis with CAPE/ASPEN, and ensure compliance with governing standards. Hybrid work with relocation possibilities is offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited).
• 7+ years in system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
• Solid relay settings and protection-study experience.
• Knowledge of line/transformer/bus protection philosophies.
• Experience with CAPE/ASPEN or equivalent tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and application of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, and capacitor/reactor banks.
• Perform short-circuit analyses, relay coordination, and time-current curve development.
• Manage relay records and configuration data using Powerbase or similar databases.
• Review protection and control drawings including one-/three-lines and wiring diagrams.
• Support commissioning, field energization, and issue investigations.
• Ensure compliance with IEEE/ANSI/NERC PRC standards and client requirements.
