Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks a Senior System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team in the United States. You will lead protection philosophies, relay settings, and system studies for transmission lines, transformers, buses, and capacitor banks, with a substation P&C design review role.

Ideal candidates bring 7+ years of protection engineering experience, proficiency with CAPE/ASPEN, and familiarity with IEEE/ANSI/NERC standards.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited).
7+ years of system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
Experience with protection philosophies for line, transformer, bus, breaker failure, and capacitor/reactor protection.
Proficiency with CAPE/ASPEN or equal protection analysis tools.
Experience with relay software tools (SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista, major OEM software).
Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI and NERC/PRC standards; strong communication with clients and teams.

Responsibilities

Lead development and application of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, breakers, and capacitor banks.
Perform short‑circuit analysis and relay coordination.
Configure, set, and troubleshoot microprocessor-based relays using vendor software.
Manage relay records and protection data in Powerbase; ensure change-control compliance.
Support protection event analysis, misoperation investigations, and field commissioning.
