Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Senior System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team. You will lead protection philosophies, perform protection studies, and review P&C designs for HV transmission and substations. A hybrid work arrangement enables three days in the office with two remote days.

Ideal candidates bring 7+ years in system protection, experience with CAPE/ASPEN, and proficiency in relay software such as SEL AcSELerator and EnerVista. A ABET EE degree is required.

Qualifications

• We require a ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 7+ years of system protection engineering experience for transmission or substation projects.
• Strong background in protection philosophies for lines, transformers, buses, and breakers.
• Experience with fault studies and relay coordination using CAPE/ASPEN or equivalent.
• Proficiency with SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista, or other OEM relay software.
• Experience with Powerbase or similar relay/asset databases.
• Ability to interpret P&C drawings (one-lines, three-lines, schematics).
• Familiarity with IEEE, ANSI, NERC/PRC standards and change control.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to work with utility clients and construction teams.
• Proven experience leading portions of projects with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and application of protection philosophies and settings for transmission and substations.
• Perform system protection studies including short-circuit analysis and relay coordination.
• Configure protective relays using vendor software and troubleshoot protection schemes.
• Develop P&C design documents including one-lines and wiring diagrams.
• Provide system protection requirements and markups for P&C design teams.
• Support commissioning, field questions, and RFIs related to protection and control.
