Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Senior System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team in the United States. This role focuses on relay settings, protection philosophies, and power system studies, with a secondary role in supporting substation protection & control design.

Responsibilities include leading protection philosophies for transmission lines and equipment, conducting short‑circuit analyses, and coordinating protection settings using CAPE/ASPEN.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (or equivalent).
• 7+ years in system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
• Experience with relay settings, protection studies, and fault analysis.
• Familiarity with CAPE/ASPEN or equivalent protection analysis tools.
• Experience with Powerbase or similar relay databases.
• Ability to read and interpret P&C drawings and schematics.

Responsibilities

• Lead protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, breakers, and capacitor/reactor banks.
• Perform short‑circuit analysis, relay coordination, and time‑current curve development.
• Develop and verify protection settings using CAPE/ASPEN (or equivalents).
• Manage relay records and configuration data in Powerbase.
• Review P&C drawings and coordination with substation design teams.
• Support commissioning, field questions, and protection issue resolutions.
