Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team. You will lead protection philosophy development, relay settings, and power system studies for transmission and substation projects.

The role requires a ABET‑accredited Electrical Engineering degree and 10+ years of experience, with strong communication skills and the ability to coordinate with clients, equipment manufacturers, and field teams. Hybrid work with relocation support offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program (or equivalent).
• 10+ years of experience in system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
• Strong background in protection philosophies, relay logic, and protection studies.
• Experience with CAPE/ASPEN or equivalent protection analysis tools.
• Experience with relay configuration tools such as SEL AcSELerator and EnerVista.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and application of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, and capacitor/reactor banks.
• Perform system protection studies including short-circuit analysis and relay coordination.
• Configure, set, and troubleshoot microprocessor‑based protective relays using vendor software.
• Develop and review protection and control schematics and P&C design documents with substation teams.
• Support commissioning, field energization, RFIs, and issue resolution during construction and startup.
