Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; professional coder certification (AHIMA or AAPC)
• 3+ years acute care inpatient medical coding experience
• 2+ years in Level 2+ trauma centers or teaching hospitals with complex procedures
• 2+ years ICD-10-CM/PCS and DRG coding experience
• Ability to pass pre-employment requirements including drug screen and background check

Responsibilities

• Identify correct ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient hospital services and DRG impact
• Abstract additional data elements during chart review as needed
• Adhere to AHIMA/AAPC ethical coding standards
• Maintain coding quality and productivity targets
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate
• Stay current with coding guidance and participate in department meetings
