Job summary

UnitedHealth Group, a nationwide health care leader, seeks a Senior Inpatient Medical Coder to provide hospital inpatient coding services remotely, ensuring accurate DRG assignments. Four weeks of virtual training will run 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with subsequent telecommuting from anywhere in the U.S.

Ideal candidates hold AHIMA/AAPC credentials and have 3+ years inpatient coding, plus trauma center experience, ICD-10-CM/PCS and DRG expertise. Competitive pay and benefits offered.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or higher.
• Professional coder certification with AHIMA and/or AAPC (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC or CPC-H).
• 3+ years of Acute Care inpatient medical coding experience.
• 2+ years in Level 2+ trauma center and/or teaching hospital with complex procedures.
• 2+ years of ICD-10-CM/PCS and DRG coding experience.
• Ability to pass pre-employment requirements (drug screen, background check).

Responsibilities

• Identify assignment of ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient hospital services and impact on DRG.
• Abstract additional data elements during chart review as needed.
• Adhere to coding ethics per AAPC/AHIMA guidelines.
• Maintain performance levels in coding quality and productivity.
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians.
• Stay up-to-date with coding knowledge from QM Manager, Coding Ops Directors, and QA teams.
• Participate in coding dept. meetings and educational events.
• Review and maintain records of charts coded or missing.
